Conference Season Is Back. Book It Like a Pro.

Smart strategies. Sharp stories. Sustainability that sticks.
📬 INTRO: INTERESTED BEATS INTERESTING
In August most parents send the kids back to school. This week it's OUR turn to plan Fall field trips!
Years ago a mentor handed me the best networking advice I ever got: be interested, not interesting. Early in my career, I worked on sounding impressive. Meanwhile, real pros asked questions, took names, and sent follow-ups before their return flights boarded.
Fall is loaded and early-bird deadlines are going by fast. Here's a rundown to book your season right.
🌍 FIELD NOTES: YOUR FALL, BOOKED THIS WEEK
🗽 Greenbuild Goes to New York
The USGBC’s Greenbuild 2026 runs October 20-23 at the Javits Center in New York, with an "Invest for Impact" theme and Fareed Zakaria keynoting Wednesday morning. Last year's Los Angeles edition drew around 15,000 attendees and 100-plus education sessions.
The year's biggest green building gathering is a train ride away for much of the industry this fall.
🙋 Ask the Second Question
Harvard's study It Doesn't Hurt to Ask found people who ask follow-up questions are better liked. In speed-dating trials, they landed more second dates. A follow-up question proves you listened.
Then close the loop. 80% of trade show leads never get a follow-up, and 88% of collected business cards are tossed within a week. Follow up within 24 hours and you're seven times more likely to qualify the lead.
At the Javits Center this October, the second question beats the smoothest pitch.
🗓️ The Fall Roster
Pick your lane. Getting to Zero Forum hits New York October 5-6 for the zero-carbon design crowd, and the Net Zero Conference runs October 8 in Los Angeles. Developers and investors head to the ULI Fall Meeting in Miami October 26-28. Operators get two: NFMT West in Las Vegas November 3-4 (free to attend!) and IFMA World Workplace in Anaheim November 18-20.
Early-bird pricing for Getting to Zero and Net Zero ends Friday, August 14. Book this week.

🏛 BUILT TO LAST:
Treat the season like a project. Pick one big event and one niche one. Register before prices jump, book meetings before you land, and schedule sessions against your CE gaps.
By role:
🏢 Operators: NFMT West costs nothing, and IFMA World Workplace is the fall's deepest FM bench.
📐 Designers: Getting to Zero's early-bird ends August 14, and Greenbuild sessions carry AIA LU and HSW credit.
🔨 Builders: ULI Fall Meeting in Miami is where 2027's projects get financed.
🌱 Emerging pros: One conference worked well beats three worked halfway. Ask for the trip now.
💬 QUOTE OF THE WEEK
“Every big project I’ve been part of started as a conversation. Ask the questions, take the notes, and follow up while it’s fresh.”
